In 2010, Marco Manders, experienced entrepreneur in communication and
graphical design, developed a concept for an outdoor swivel chair in the iconic
shape of a tulip: one of the best-known export products of the Netherlands. For the first
model wasn't fit for the human body, Contour was asked to develop the concept into
an ergonomically well-proportioned chair: fit to sit. The challenge in this project
was to combine the main shape of the tulip with the dimensions necessary for
comfort. Because of the pivoting point, every small change had big consequences
in all the other dimensions. But, as one can see, the outcome looks very appealing.
And so judged the jury, as it received the prestigious GIO-design award in 2011.
